Where Liberty Ignited Began

Some ideas don’t arrive all at once.

They build slowly—piece by piece, scent by scent—until one day, you realize they’ve been forming something bigger all along.

Liberty Ignited didn’t begin with a finished story.

It began with a feeling.

Maybe that feeling started long before I realized it, visiting places tied to the American Revolution as a kid, walking through history without fully understanding it yet. I even vaguely remember the Bicentennial… though at four years old, I’m not sure how much of that memory I can truly claim.

Now, with America’s 250th anniversary approaching, those early memories feel closer than ever, like something that was always waiting to come back into focus.

From Fragrance to Story

While developing new fragrances inspired by early American history, something unexpected started to happen.

Each scent began to carry a moment with it. Something more than just notes on a label.

A mood.

A place.

A presence.

But as I worked with them, I started thinking less about the scents… and more about the magnitude of the moments behind them.

A group of colonies, made up of ordinary people, stood up to what was then the most powerful empire in the world… and said no more.

They didn’t have the strongest army.

They didn’t have certainty.

What they had was belief, resolve, and the willingness to risk everything.

And somehow… they won.

The more I worked with these fragrances, the more those moments began to connect. What started as individual ideas slowly formed a sense of continuity. Pieces of something larger coming together.

Not just a collection.

A story.

More Than a Scent

Each candle in the Liberty Ignited collection is tied to a moment:

  • The quiet resolve beneath the Liberty Tree

  • The urgency of the Midnight Ride

  • The defiance of Tax on Tea

  • The weight of words in We The People

  • The fragile hope of a New Republic

These aren’t just fragrances.

They’re reflections of moments where everything could have gone differently—and didn’t.

Moments that deserve to be remembered… and celebrated.

Where the Story Took Shape

As the collection developed, so did the story behind it. The ideas that inspired each candle began to connect, forming characters, moments, and a timeline that extended beyond the fragrances themselves.

Around that same time, I found myself exploring my family history with my daughter—tracing names, places, and connections across generations.

Somewhere in that process, a simple question took hold:

What would it be like to visit one of them?

Not just to read about them… but to meet them.

That question stayed with me. And over time, it became something more—a story I couldn’t ignore.

What began as inspiration behind the candles evolved into a work of historical fiction, where those moments, places, and questions could come to life in a different way.

As I was finishing the book, I found myself test burning We The People, watching the flame as everything started to come together.

It was winter. Christmas. Evenings spent in that quiet space between finishing something and not yet fully understanding what it’s becoming. The Patriot playing in the background, and the weight of it all slowly settling in.

From Story to Flame

There’s something powerful about experiencing history in a different way.

Not just reading it.

Not just learning it.

But feeling it.

That’s what Liberty Ignited is meant to do.

Liberty Ignited is a collection of American Revolution gifts created to be experienced, not just observed.

And at the center of it all… a story that wasn’t planned—but couldn’t be ignored.
